Hi! I’m Harrison Becker, CEO of Steep Curve Studios and Project Lead for “Don’t Get Blacklisted.”
The idea for this studio has been a long time coming. I began learning the fundamentals of game development early in my High School Career and quickly made many talented friends who also honed their own related skills. We always talked about how cool it would be to start a game studio together using our combined talents. Eventually, the opportunity to do that arrived…
Steep Curve started out as a Becker College studio team working on my Masters Thesis, a project called “Don’t Get Blacklisted.” When the final year of the project came to a close, a subset of that team stayed together to complete the remaining work and release the game. On a road trip north to Maine, myself and a small group of my teammates came up with the name for this group: Steep Curve Studios. Since then we have brought on many aspiring and talented game developers to continue work on “Don’t Get Blacklisted” and beyond.
Projects with Steep Curve Studios are volunteer-based and focus on helping up-and-coming game developers gain a foothold in the industry and hone their skills on fun, thought-provoking, and creatively fulfilling projects. All current Steep Curve projects are released for free with developers retaining personal ownership of assets created for the project. As such all Steep Curve Employees work part-time on the companies project as their other commitments allow.
Steep Curve Studios is based on the Pillars of Ethical Game Design laid out in my thesis. These tenets are core to how we operate this studio. All members are welcome and encouraged to share feedback regardless of their department or concentration. All meetings are open door to any teammate interested. We do not keep secrets about projects from each other. We always strived for true transparency on the state of the project, allowing for any interested party to follow development and engage directly with the development team as they see fit.
Steep Curve Studios is dedicated to only releasing high-quality, polished experiences. In the gaming industry, most games only get one chance to make a good first impression. We strive to make the best games we can, regardless of how long they take to create.
